This project entailed the complete refurbishment of a 1920s semi-detached house in a poor state of repair, internal modifications to the existing house and the addition of a part two storey and part single storey extension.

The new extension wraps around the back and side of the original house. It was designed in such a way as to maintain natural lighting deep into the plan of the existing house and to minimise the visual bulk of the extension, when seen from the road, yet still increase the floor area of the house by an additional 50%. The design of the extension is courteous to its established, leafy, residential surroundings, and uses a simple, civilised palette of materials – white painted render, striking red brick and natural slate. The fabric of the original house – walls, roof, floors and windows - was fully upgraded to not only meet but exceed the energy performance and air tightness standards required by the Building Regulations.
